Sam is one of the most respected members in the House of Delegates and is known for his hard work and attention to detail. In recent years, he’s been ranked as one of Virginia’s most effective legislators. Sam is proud of our community and has earned a reputation of being a strong, effective voice for Chesterfield. He currently serves on three House committees: Health Welfare and Institutions (Vice Chair), Commerce and Labor, and Science and Technology. In 2007, he was elected Chairman of the House Republican Caucus for the 2008 - 2009 term.
Over the years, he has been honored with Legislator of the Year and Delegate of the Year awards from many different organizations, including the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the Virginia Association of Commissioners of the Revenue in 2007, the Virginia Retail Merchants Association in 2006, the Virginia Fraternal Order of Police in 2003, the Virginia Family Foundation in 1998 and 2003, and the Virginia Manufacturer’s Association in 2003.

In his spare time, Sam enjoys playing in a band called “Albopalooza,” a band made up of Republican Delegates.
Sam is happily married to Carol Nixon. They have one son, Johnathan, a high school senior. They are active members of Southside Church of the Nazarene, where Sam plays keyboards in the church band on Sundays. Sam is an avid motorsports fan and once held a Nascar short-track crew license.
